Welcome to Step 7: Learn the Style
By now, you should have all the basics of reading in place. We've gone from single sounds to syllables to words and, finally, to sentences. English, however, is much more versatile and complex. To maximize your vocabulary, fluency, and comprehensive, it's time to move on from the basics to the "bells and whistles" that can make a passage unique or more interesting.
The style features of English are the methods a writer uses to add color, character, and tone, among other qualities, to a passage for a specific objective. They can make the writing more vivid or more subtle, highly descriptive or minimalist. The writer can include special terms or figurative language. There are too many choices to mention.
Because style features impact the way a piece of writing is understood, some exposure to these methods is wise to maximize comprehension. That is why they are included in Step 7.
