It’s time to move on the multisyllable words in Step 3. This 26-page packet begins simply by defining the syllable and why it’s a critical part of learning to read. Next, is the introduction of subdividing words accurately to be able to decode them. To make this transition easy, we use compound words. Another section teaches how to add common endings, ED, ING, and ER/EST, and how to know whether the ending adds an additional syllable. The sight words are groups of common multisyllable words like those for colors, family members, days of the week, and months of the year. The bonus words are useful compounds, like those beginning with any, every, and over. The reading passages are taken from public domain classics, such as Aesop’s Fables and Peter Pan. The foundational focus in Step 3 is skills #3 and #4, vocabulary and fluency. *Note: These packets are intended to be used with the video lessons at SoundEnglish.org, but they can be used by themselves.
