The final two sounds, numbers 43 and 44, are the “cowboy” vowels, also known as the diphthongs. A diphthong combines two sounds into one but requires a glide from the first vowel position to the second. Included in this last phonics lesson are all the usual parts: sounds, letter combinations, words, bonus words, sight words, and reading practice with all 44 sounds. The packet introduces the concept of the diphthong as as the concept of W as a vowel, since W only functions as a consonant at the beginning of a word or syllable. *Note: These packets are intended to be used with the video lessons at SoundEnglish.org, but they can be used by themselves.
